Our Favourite Walk

The Bedford United Walk

As regular dog walkers ourselves, the Tamar Trails staff have voted the Bedford United walk as the current favourite!

Why its our favourite?

  • Fantastic river views
  • A great vista across the flood plains
  • Variation of terrain from very steep paths and steps, to quite flat
  • It passes the old mine entrance (Gated to make safe – but still accessed by the Mine Exploration Society)
  • Creative use of natural materials to carve a path through the landscape.
  • small viewing platforms built beside the trail
  • lots of varied and interesting terrain for the dogs to explore!

This route is suitable for fit and active walkers, not buggies or bikes. It takes approximately 1 hour to walk.

It is described  thus:

The start is on the left just beside the carpark exit onto the trails; it brings you on a loop back to the car park. An exciting adventure trail for the intrepid, past fascinating 18th and 19th century mine workings, with great views over the Tamar. The trail is narrow, steep and uneven with steps throughout and is 2km long.
